Well I Declare! the Favourite's Astaire

Wednesday’s feature race is the Group 2 Duke Of York Clipper Logistics Stakes and following the final declarations Astaire heads the betting with William Hill at 9-2. Trained by Kevin Ryan, Astaire has started the season well, filling the runner-up spot in the Cammidge Trophy at Doncaster, before flooring his rivals in the Abernant Stakes at Newmarket.

Astaire has been very popular in the betting and William Hill have been forced to shorten the horse from 7-1 on Sunday, in to current odds of 9-2 (he was 5-1 before the final declarations).

“We’ve been forced to cut the odds for Astaire to balance the books, but there is still some very strong betting support,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.

Naadirr was the horse who got the better of Astaire at Doncaster and Marco Botti’s colt also won the Garrowby Stakes at York last year. He is the 11-2 second-favourite with William Hill, along with the progressive Muthmir for William Haggas.
