The award, which is in its 31st year, is the longest running Sports Book award in the world and has received a record number of entries (152) in 2019.

On joining the judging panel, Dame Katherine said: “I am delighted to be joining the William Hill Sports Book of the Year judging panel. It is a hugely influential award and the announcement of the winner is something I have always looked forward to. It will be great to be involved in the decision making process this year.”

Alyson Rudd, sportswriter at The Times and novelist, said of her appointment as Chair of the judging panel: “The William Hill Sports Book of the Year is an institution. Its inception has changed the landscape of sports writing and helped enormously to improve its quality. When I was asked to join the panel 14 years ago, I jumped at the opportunity. It is a great honour to have been appointed its Chair.”
