Political Punters Back Le Pen To Follow In Corbyn/Trump Wake

FOR THE FIRST TIME, bookmakers William Hill have taken a six figure sum on the outcome of the French Presidential Election – with 61% of the bets and 44% of the money staked on Marine Le Pen; with 17% and 41% respectively on Francois Fillon; and 16% and 12% for the favourite Emmanuel Macron.

'Once again we have the punters backing a contender in a major election who is not favourite' said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe. 'Ms Le Pen is taking on the role recently successfully performed by Jeremy Corbyn ( longest odds to be Lab leader,150/1); Brexit longest odds 6/1) and Donald Trump (longest odds to be President,200/1). This is the first time any election other than a British or American one has attracted a six figure betting turnover.'

TO WIN FRENCH PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION: 13/8 Macron; 15/8 Le Pen; 11/4 Fillon; 20/1 Hamon; 25/1 Juppe; 40/1 Melenchon; 100/1 Bayrou

IT IS now a 1/5 (83% chance) shot with William Hill that Theresa May will trigger Article 50 before the end of this March – and 10/3 that she will fail to do so. Hills make 2019 4/11 to be the year when Bredit becomes official; 11/4 2018 or earlier; 7/1 2020 or later.

Meanwhile, Hills have cut their odds for Speaker, John Bercow, to stand down from the role before January 1, 2018, from opening odds of 5/1 to 7/4. He is, though, 2/5 to remain as Speaker at least until the start of 2018.
