Grand National: Will Don Out Last Samuri?

Don Poli and The Last Samuri head the betting at 16-1 with William Hill for this year’s Randox Health Grand National. Both were originally 25-1 in William Hill’s first book on the race in April 2016.

The biggest price move in the race this year has been on One For Arthur. He was 50-1 for the Grand National before the Classic Chase at Warwick and is now 20-1 after winning that contest.

“The Last Samuri is currently the best-backed horse for this year’s Grand National, while both Don Poli and One For Arthur are right on his tail,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.

“The Grand National is the biggest betting race of the year and because it is the public race, form almost goes out of the window when it comes to people’s selections. Anything with a person’s name in is always popular. This year we have an Arthur, a Phil, a Carole, an Oscar and a Sam all towards the top end of the betting. It would be no surprise to see one of them start favourite.”

William Hill also have a number of Grand National specials.

It’s odds-on at 8-15 with Hills that this year’s winner is trained in the UK. Ireland are 11-8 and France are 50-1.

Gordon Elliott is 6-1 favourite in William Hill’s winning trainer market, with Paul Nicholls closest in the betting at double the odds.

While Don Poli is 12-1 to finish in the first four in both the Gold Cup and the Grand National.
