The Grand National is the UK’s number one betting event and the biggest horse race in the world (watched by over 600million people globally). Bookmakers, William Hill, predict that the 2017 Grand National will top £225m in wagers across the industry, with more than 35m bets set to be placed.

Combined with The Masters, the Premier League, other Aintree races plus various other sporting fixtures, the bookmaking industry is set to see £350million in bets come the end of the week.

“This weekend will be the biggest betting event in history,” said William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams. “The Grand National, The Masters and the football fixtures will generate the highest turnover levels on any weekend in history.’”

The Grand National starting at (5.15pm) in 2016 was a real boost for turnover and bookies William Hill expect that trend to continue.

“Last year’s experiment of moving the start time to 5:15 really paid off and we expect the Grand National to smash betting records this year,” said William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams.
