General Election First 24 Hours: Big Bets On Tories As Bookies Fear UKIP

In the first 24 hours since Theresa May announced the snap General Election, William Hill have seen support for all parties to win although the big bucks have been on the Conservative Party.

“The Tories have come in from 1/5 to 1/6 over the last 24 hours and our biggest wagers on them have come from some traditional Labour strongholds. A £7,000 bet from Glasgow, a £6,000 from Stoke on Trent and a £5,000 from Preston have all been placed in the last 24 hours, begging the question: ‘Do even Labour’s biggest fans fear that they have no chance?” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.

The biggest liability in the book so far is for UKIP who could already cost bookies a reasonable six figure sum already if the General Election were to be held tomorrow.

General Election result: 1/6 Conservative majority; 5/1 no overall majority; 16/1 Labour majority; 25/1 Liberal Democrat majority; 100/1 UKIP majority.
