Coates Looks Set to Stay Australian Olympic Committee President
Bookmaker William Hill today installed incumbent AOC President John Coates as the $1.60 favourite to win the ballot for the Australian Olympic Committee Presidency, to be held at the Annual General Meeting of the AOC on May 6.
Mr Coates, President of the AOC since 1990, is being challenged for the first time since assuming the role by former Olympian Danni Roche amid claims of bullying and a toxic culture inside the Olympic organization.
A William Hill spokesperson said “despite the allegations against the AOC, Coates has ruled the Olympic organization with an iron fist for almost three decades and deserves to be regarded as the favourite. He still retains significant support among the Olympic sports that have benefited from Coates international influence, and whose support is crucial to the outcome of the ballot”.
Next AOC President: Odds as of 27/04/17
John Coates $1.60
Danni Roche $2.20
