Budget Day Bets

BOOKMAKERS WILLIAM HILL make it an odds-on chance at 8/11 (57% chance) that the Chancellor will speak for 50 minutes or over in delivering his Budget speech, while it is an Even money chance that he finishes in under 50 minutes.

Hills also believe that he will wear a Blue tie whilst so doing, offering 1/4 (80% chance) about that; with Red quoted at 3/1; Yellow 8/1; Grey 12/1; Green & Pink both 16/1 shots.

Philip Hammond is 1/6 (85% chance) with Hills still to be Chancellor when the General Election takes place, 7/2 not to.

William Hill do not think that this week's Budget will contain a tax cut for 45% top rate payers – and offer odds of 11/2 (15% chance)  about that happening – and 1/10 that the rate will either remain unchanged or be raised.

Hills are also betting on words and phrases that the Chancellor may utter during his speech – and offer 1/12 that he will mention 'NHS', 1/ 4 that he will say 'Brexit'; 2/5 'Oil prices'; 2/5 'China'; 2/1 'British people'; 2/1 'Donald Trump' ;2/1 'Grammar schools' 4/1 'Immigration'; 5/1 'Fake news';6/1 'Snap Election'; 8/1 'Just about manage'; 8/1 'Take back control'.

MEANWHILE, Hills have cut their odds for the Tories to win the next General Election from 8/13 (61%) to 4/7 (63%), and also offer 15/8 Hung Parliament, with Labour out to 7/1 from 6/1. 'We have seen very little support for Labour, hence the shortening of the Tory odds' said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.
