Brit To Gatecrash The Oscars? Dev Patel’s Odds Tumble After BAFTA Win

Dev Patel's odds of winning an Oscar have been slashed following his shock BAFTA win.  He was 6/1 to win his Best Supporting Actor award on Sunday night and has been as long as 20/1 to win the Oscar for his role in Lion, however, is now just 6/1. Despite the fact that his odds have been shortened considerably, he remains quite a way behind the red hot favourite Mahershala Ali who is 1/6.

"His BAFTA win was a shock given that he was the third favourite to pick it up and while he is still an outsider to win the Oscar, he is certainly picking up momentum before the big day,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.

In the other categories, La La Land is red hot favourite to pick up Best Picture at 1/10 with its director, Damien Chazelle 1/20 to pick up his accolade and Emma Stone is 1/6 for Best Actress. The hottest favourite is Viola Davis, who is 1/50 for the Best Supporting Actress award while perhaps the tightest contest is in the Best Actor category, where Casey Affleck heads the betting at 8/15 although is closely followed by Denzel Washington at 6/4.
