Bookies Predict Biggest Ever Super Bowl

Bookmakers William Hill predict that this year’s Super Bowl will be the biggest betting event in US sports history.

“Every year we see growth in Super Bowl betting around the world and this year we’re set to take the most money ever on a US sporting event,” said William Hill bookmaker Jon Ivan-Duke.

“The ideal Super Bowl for betting turnover would be if New England face Dallas, because you’ve got two great teams with huge numbers of supporters. There is what could be called ‘The Brady Factor’ – put poster boy Tom Brady in the biggest sporting event, on the biggest stage in front of millions of fans and the sportsbooks would be inundated with bets.”

New England Patriots are currently 15/8 favourites to win the Super Bowl (bet 10, returns 28.75), with Dallas Cowboys next in the betting at 4/1 (bet 10, returns 50). New England Patriots are 4/6 favourites to win the AFC and Dallas Cowboys 6/4 favourites to win the NFC.

The worst possible Super Bowl for British bookies William Hill would be if the New York Giants played the Kansas City Chiefs. That’s at least according to the current liabilities on William Hills’ online sportsbook.

“A Super Bowl win for the New York Giants would be the worst possible result for William Hill. In fact, this would be five times worse than if any other side won. That is because all year we have rated them as underdogs and we have continued to take bets on them at big odds as we think they are unlikely winners,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.

Houston, Seattle, Pittsburgh and Green Bay are all favourites in their respective Wild Card Round games this weekend.
