Alarm Bells As Mullins Pair Out Of Cheltenham

Alarm Bells As Mullins Pair Out Of Cheltenham

Min and Faugheen are both out of Cheltenham and William Hill have reacted to the news by revising their antepost Festival markets.

There are now three co-favourites in the Champion Hurdle. Buveur D’Air and Yanworth are both unchanged at 7-2, but Yorkhill was cut to 7-2 from 9-2 by William Hill after news about Faugheen. Further down the list, Jezki has been cut to 6-1 from 7-1 and Footpad is 16-1 from 25-1. Faugheen had been the 7-4 favourite before being scratched from the race.

In the Arkle, Altior was trimmed to 4-7 from 8-11 by William Hill. Charbel, Royal Caviar and Some Plan are all now 14-1 from 16-1. Min had been 10-3 in the Arkle betting.

Money came for a number of horses in both the Champion Hurdle and Arkle markets before the news broke. There was indeed so much interest that William Hill’s compilers were suspicious and suspended the market early.

“The alarm bells were ringing before the news broke and we’d seen enough money for other horses in the Champion Hurdle and Arkle markets to realise something was wrong. We suspended the market and a matter of minutes later the news filtered through. It’s completely transformed both betting markets,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.

Meanwhile, in the Ryanair Chase, Uxizandre has been trimmed to 6-1 from 7-1 with Hills after some decent support.

Elsewhere, Nimr has been cut to 25-1 from 33-1 for the Lincoln after winning at Wolverhampton.
