William Hill get shirty to raise £20,000 for the Bobby Moore Fund

Colleagues at the Enfield branch of William Hill were the country's star performers as the bookies both sponsored and raised cash for the annual Bobby Moore Fund 'Football Shirt Friday'.

The Bush Hill Park shop team, together with customers, contributed the highest individual branch total of £150 as the company raised £20,000 on the day. The team presented the £20,000 cheque to Stephanie Moore MBE, founder of the Bobby Moore Fund, at the shop in Enfield on Tuesday 19th July.

2016 marks the 50th anniversary of Bobby Moore raising the 1966 World Cup for England, and to celebrate, the Bobby Moore Fund have pledged to raise an additional £500,000 on top of their usual fundraising, all of which goes to Cancer Research UK’s life-saving research.

Across the UK, William Hill colleagues contributed £2 to don their favourite football shirt to show their support for Football Shirt Friday, held on 22nd April.

The Bobby Moore Fund’s Football Shirt Friday in total raised a record £140,477.56, which will go towards Cancer Research UK’s pioneering life-saving bowel cancer research and clinical trials

Stephanie Moore, founder of the Bobby Moore Fund, said: “We are hugely grateful to William Hill and their generous staff across the UK. They have really got behind Football Shirt Friday and raised an amazing amount by wearing and encouraging customers to wear their favourite team’s shirt for a donation. Every penny raised will go towards helping us beat bowel cancer once and for all.”

William Hill also ran a public health campaign throughout April to help the Bobby Moore Fund increase awareness of bowel cancer as part of the company’s Close to HOME community commitment. Leaflets and videos were displayed in all their 2,370 shops in the UK promoting the signs and tips to prevent bowel cancer to colleagues and customers

William Hill’s Director of Security and Community Affairs Bill South said, ‘The support and enthusiasm of the William Hill community for this campaign has been incredible and we are proud to have raised such a significant amount for a vital cause. The Bobby Moore Fund does phenomenal work in raising awareness and funding treatment of bowel cancer and the money raised on Football Shirt Friday will go a long way to saving lives from the disease.’
