The Derby: Frankie Fever Could Hit Bookies For 10 Million

William Hill predict the industry could suffer a £10million payout if Frankie Dettori wins The Derby on Saturday.

“Frankie is a showman and punters love to back him. We think ‘Frankie Fever’ could sweep the country and hit bookmakers for a £10million payout if he wins,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.

Frankie Dettori is the man that bookies fear above all others and is infamous as the man who singlehandedly cost William Hill over £8million - and the industry over £40m - when he rode his unique ‘Magnificent Seven’(winning all seven televised races at an important Ascot meeting) in September 1996 at accumulative odds of over 25,000/1.

Dettori rides Wings Of Desire in the 2016 Investec Derby for trainer John Gosden, the same man that he teamed up with to win the Derby last year on Golden Horn.

Frankie’s biggest danger is likely to come from US Army Ranger, ridden by Dettori’s arch-rival Ryan Moore and trained by Irish master Aidan O’Brien.

“It’s a wide open Derby this year, which is why we think punters will turn to Dettori. He’s a man they can trust to put in a performance on the biggest Flat racing day of the year,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.

An estimated £25million will be wagered on the race across the betting industry.
