Seven Figure Swing In Favour Of Punters After France Leave It Late

The bookies were just minutes away from celebrating a stalemate in the first game of the European Championships. 75% of all wagers on the opening match of the tournament were for a France victory including one bet of £50,000 at 3/10. Just 8% of all people backed the draw with the remaining 17% backing the Romanians at 10/1.

“For all their bluster and obvious technical ability, France struggled to get going and all the favourite backers were nervous until Dimitri Payet stepped forward with a screamer,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly. “The goal from the West Ham man turned the result from a seven figure winner for the bookies into a seven figure loser.”

During the game, France drifted from an original 3/1 to 7/2 to win the tournament, however on the final whistle, they remain the favourites.
