Sceaux Leads Clarence House Chase Betting

Following the five day declarations for the Clarence House Chase, William Hill make Un De Sceaux the 5-6 favourite (from 8-11). Hills chose to knock the Willie Mullins market leader out, as he has an alternative engagement at Thurles on Thursday (Kinloch Brae).

“We don’t want to second-guess Willie Mullins. The betting market will give us a good guide as to whether Un De Sceaux will head to Thurles or to Ascot, but at the moment we have seen very little to sway us either way,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.

Instead, Hills docked Sire De Grugy to 5-1 from 7-1. Initially it looked like Sire De Grugy would not be a runner, but with Gary Moore suggesting he will now wait to see how he works before deciding, William Hill chose to shorten him. Moore also has Ar Mad for the race (2-1 second-favourite), who ran well in the Tingle Creek but made some bad mistakes that cost him any chance of winning – with a clear round, he could go a lot closer.

Clarence House Chase: 5-6 Un De Sceaux, 2-1 Ar Mad, 5-1 Sire De Grugy, 10-1 Special Tiara, 12-1 Royal Regatta, 14-1 Top Gamble, 20-1 Dodging Bullets, 33-1 Eastlake, (EW ¼ Odds Places 1,2 – will revert to 1/5 odds 1,2,3 if 8 run)
