Punters Have "Unassailable Lead" At Cheltenham

Punters are well and truly loving this year’s Cheltenham Festival, with William Hill estimating that the industry took a £30million pounding on the third day of Cheltenham Festival. It means that overall, the bookmakers are around £50million down for the biggest race meeting of the year.

A treble of outright favourites, Vautour and Limini trained by Willie Mullins and Thistlecrack trained by Colin Tizzard, smashed the layers for one of the worst Thursday’s in Cheltenham history.

“Punters have gone clear and they appear to have an unassailable lead at this year’s Cheltenham Festival,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke. “We hope to claw some back on Friday, but it would be a consolation goal.”
