Nicholls Odds-On But Bookies Not Ruling Out Willie

Paul Nicholls has gone from 5-1 to win the Trainers’ Championship with William Hill to 4-7 in the space of a week. The pendulum swung with his Scottish National success, with his price cut to 4-6 following Vicente’s win.

Willie Mullins has gone in the opposite direction. The Irish maestro was just 1-10 for the Trainers’ title ahead of racing last weekend, but now he is 5-4.

“Paul Nicholls has the upper hand and he’s a strong favourite, but Willie has a way of making bookmakers look foolish and we can’t rule him out,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.

Southfield Theatre holds favouritism in the Sandown Gold Cup, while Sprinter Sacre has been backed from Even-Money in to 10-11 to win the Celebration Chase.

“Sprinter Sacre is probably the most popular horse in training and we expect punters to splash their cash on him as usual,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.
