New Gold Cup Favourite As Smad Wins

Smad Place won the trial for the Cheltenham Gold Cup at the Cotswold course today and is now 8-1 from 33-1 with William Hill for the feature race at The Festival.

There is a new favourite with William Hill too. Vautour is now the 4-1 favourite from 5-1 after Djakadam was a faller. The latter is now 9-2, having been 7-2 favourite for the Gold Cup beforehand.

“Smad Place has definitely enhanced his claims for Cheltenham, but Djakadam has fluffed his lines and has lost the favourite’s tag,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke. “William Hill want to be on the right side of Smad Place now.”

There is the option for Smad Place to run in the Ryanair Chase, for which he is now 4-1 second-favourite from 7-1.
