Mystery 'Psychic' Could Hit Hills For £166,250

William Hill are on the lookout for a Birmingham punter who placed the biggest Grand National bet of the year so far -  and picked the horse using psychic abilities.

Britain’s largest retail bookmaker took a £10,000 bet on Goonyella in a Birmingham shop, with the customer telling shop staff that he had placed the bet by speaking to his ‘spirit guide’.

If Goonyella wins, the prophetic punter would pick up £166,250 from his £5k each-way bet.

“It’s an each-way bet, so perhaps our psychic punter isn’t sure if Goonyella will win or finish in the places. We’re fascinated by the bet and would be interested to find out if his spirit guide has helped him pick the winner before!”

Last year’s winner Many Clouds is the current 7-1 favourite for the world’s biggest race, as he bids to emulate Red Rum. No horse since the great champion of the 1970s has won the Grand National twice.

“We expect a public gamble on Many Clouds. He was a popular winner last year and there’s a realistic chance he could be the next Red Rum by winning a second Grand National,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.
