Voting Ends In Lab Leader Contest

JEREMY CORBYN was given 1/100 (99% chance) odds by William Hill to defeat his opponent Owen Smith, a 16/1 shot, in the Labour leadership contest. The odds equate to staking £100 to make a profit of £1.

And Hills make him odds-on at 8/13 (61%) to win by a margin of at least 24% by gaining 62% or more of the votes cast – he is 6/5 to fail to do so.

'All of the serious money staked from a £60,000 bet downwards, has been for a convincing Corbyn victory' said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.

But as another Corbyn victory loomed, Hills lengthened their odds for Labour to win the next General Election with an overall majority from 5/1 to 6/1.'Popularity with Party members may not equate to popularity with the electorate at large' said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.

Meanwhile, William Hill are still betting on who will eventually succeed Corbyn as the next elected Labour leader, and offer 8/1 Owen Smith*; 9/1 John McDonnell; 10/1 Clive Lewis; 12/1 David Miliband; 16/1 Dan Jarvis; 16/1 Tom Watson; 20/1 Hilary Benn;  Andy Burnham; Lisa Nandy; Keir Starmer; 25/1 Yvette Cooper; 25/1 Chuka Umunna.

*Bets on Smith in this market will stand if he loses v Corbyn in current vote.
