Irish Wins As Cue Card Collared

Irish Cavalier has been slashed for multiple races after winning the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby.

William Hill cut the Rebecca Curtis-trained winner to 8-1 from 20-1 for the BetVictor Gold Cup, while he is 14-1 from 40-1 for the Hennessy Gold Cup.

Irish Cavalier has also been installed in all the big staying chases – 33-1 for the Cheltenham Timico Gold Cup, 16-1 for the (formerly William Hill) King George VI Chase and 10-1 for the Betfair Chase.

“It takes a good horse to win the Charlie Hall and Irish Cavalier could be a genuine contender for the big staying chases,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.

Meanwhile, Cue Card is out to 5-2 from 7-4 for the Betfair Chase with Hills, 6-1 from 4-1 for the King George and 12-1 from 8-1 for the Gold Cup.

“We have to push Cue Card out after that performance, but he may well come on for the run and the dream of the Chase Triple Crown is still alive,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.
