Half A Billion To Be Wagered On The Euros!

With the European Championships kicking off on Friday, William Hill are gearing up for the biggest Euros of all time. The bookies are predicting a bumper half a billion to be wagered on the tournament with £100m turnover to a staggering £100m for Hills alone – upwards of £500m for the bookmaking industry as a whole. Over two million bets are expected to be wagered with William Hill during the tournament.

“With the number of teams increased for this tournament, turnover will be higher than ever before for a Euros,” said William Hill Spokesman Joe Crilly. “Once you throw England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland into the mix you will see even more turnover.”

20% of all wagers placed on the tournament so far have been for England to win and they already represent a near million pound loss – a figure that will only increase as the tournament approaches. The Three Lions are currently the 8/1 fourth favourites to win the tournament and have attracted the largest single wager so far (£50,000 at 9/1) that returns half a million pounds if they were to lift the trophy.

Following the final warm up match against Portugal, William Hill are offering 2/1 that the starting XI from Thursday is the same XI that starts against Russia.
