Gurkha Strong For Eclipse

The Gurkha is now 13-8 favourite for the Eclipse with William Hill after being re-inserted in to the betting at 4-1 on Sunday afternoon. The price slash follows support for the Aidan O’Brien-trained horse, after the trainer suggested The Gurkha could yet line-up at Sandown with the conditions likely to be in his favour.

Time Test has drifted out from 7-4 favourite with William Hill to 7-2. The Gurkha had been 5-1 for the Eclipse before being taken out of the betting last week – that followed comments that he would be far more likely to head to the Sussex Stakes.

However, the opinion appears to have changed.

“It is hardly summer weather and the rain is playing havoc with the betting markets, but it means some punters have been getting great value. The top three in the Eclipse market have all been available at bigger odds in the past week and there could well be some more volatility in the market between now and the off,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke. “The momentum is now very much with The Gurkha.”
