Gamble Proves Incorrect After Clarke’s Wildcards…US Favourites For Ryder Cup
With Darren Clarke picking Lee Westwood, Martin Kaymer and Thomas Pieters as his three wildcards, William Hill make Europe a 13/8 shot to win the Ryder Cup with the US 8/13 and the tie 10/1. The announcement is in contrast to a gamble on Monday afternoon that saw punters backing Luke Donald being one of the picks to the point that betting was suspended.
“On Monday, we saw a number of bets being placed on Luke Donald to the point that we had to suspend betting, we did not reopen the market as in our eyes, Donald was a certainty,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly. “Pieters is a man in form however and he is more than an able wildcard selection.”
