First six figure bet placed on EU Referendum

A William Hill customer has staked a bet of £100,000 on the EU Referendum to produce a vote in favour of remaining in the EU at odds of 2/5 and stands to make a profit of £40,000.

'This is the first six figure bet struck on the EU Referendum so far- but some way short of the biggest political bet ever struck of £900,000 on the Scottish Referendum' said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe. 'The bet was the first placed by the central London based online client.'

However, since the bet was confirmed on Monday morning almost all the money Hills have taken has been for a 'Leave' vote, and Hills have cut the odds for that outcome from 15/8 to 7/4.

4/9 Remain; 7/4 Leave.
