First Million Pound Political Wager?

THE WILLIAM HILL client who staked a world record political bet of £900,000 on the outcome of the Scottish Referendum – and won – has yet to decide whether to play up his Referendum winnings of £193,333.33 by placing a bet on the EU Referendum outcome.

'Our record-breaking political punter, who helped boost betting turnover on the Scottish Referendum to become the biggest political betting event ever, says he is still weighing up the pros and cons of the Referendum debate before deciding whether to place another mega-wager' said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.

The middle-aged, married Londoner who calls himself an 'information nerd' said he regarded his winning bet as 'an investment'.

'We're standing by to take another huge wager -our client hasn't ruled out placing the first ever political bet of one million pounds or more – and whichever side he decides to support will certainly see their odds shorten as a result of our consequent payout liability' added Sharpe, 'He could single-handedly make 'Leave' the favourite should he opt to bet that way.'

William Hill currently make the 'Remain' option their 4/11 favourite, with 'Leave' as the 2/1 outsider.
