England Squad Announced Ahead Of £480m European Championship
The England squad has been announced and William Hill make England 8/1 fourth favourites to win the tournament. They have already attracted a £50,000 bet from a patriotic punter from Kent – a wager that will return £500,000 should England do the business in France.
“£50,000 is the biggest bet we have taken on the tournament so far, but we would expect some even larger wagers as we get closer to the start of the tournament– the biggest we took on the 2014 World Cup was £250,000 on the winners Germany,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.
The European Championships will provide a spike in turnover for the bookies with £480m expected to be wagered on the tournament across the industry and around £96m expected to be taken by William Hill alone.
“We are expecting the draw of Wales, England and both Northern Ireland & Republic of Ireland to attract a swell of patriotic punters boosting turnover on this tournament,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.
With Roy naming a 26 man squad as opposed to a 23 man squad, William Hill are betting on who will be the three who fall at the final hurdle and make Marcus Rashford (1/4), Fabian Delph (1/5) and Danny Drinkwater (4/7) odds on to be the ones who depart the squad.
