Derby Day Betting Bonanza As Turnover Set To Go Through The Roof On Saturday
Derby day on Saturday is set to become the biggest betting day of the new football season according to bookies, William Hill. The two matches in Glasgow and Manchester look set to bring in up to £17m worth of betting turnover across the industry.
The Celtic/Rangers match which kicks off at 12:00 on Saturday is the match that all football fans in Glasgow have been waiting for since Rangers’ demotion to the Scottish Third division, is likely to be one of the biggest turnover matches north of the border this season.
“This is certainly the most anticipated match in Scotland for quite some time. The Rangers fans have been desperate to reclaim their seat at the top table while a number Celtic fans would quietly agree that they have missed these massive fixtures,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly. “The excitement surrounding this game is likely to push turnover across the industry up to and possibly through the £7m mark.”
The Manchester derby is the first chance we will get to see Pep vs Jose in the Premier League and even before the excitement around the new players on both sides is factored in, this was always going to be one of the biggest games of the season for the bookmakers.
“The Pep and Jose factor has only added to what is usually one of our biggest turnover matches of the season and up to £10m is set to be staked on this game between the two favourites for the Premier League title,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.
Given that the two managers will be centre of attention, William Hill are offering 25/1 that Mourinho is sent to the stands during the game and 33/1 that Guardiola is. It is 5/1 that the pair fail to shake hands at the end of the game.
