Dan The Man For Labour

Political punters are betting that Dan Jarvis will be the man to succeed Jeremy Corbyn as Labour leader, say bookmakers William Hill, who have shortened his odds of doing so from 10/1 to 4/1 second favourite.

Hilary Benn is narrowly ahead of Jarvis in the betting as 7/2 favourite, with Lisa Nandy 5/1 third favourite.

'Mr Jarvis appears to be positioning himself as a likely candidate to replace Jeremy Corbyn when he stands down – and he has been the best backed candidate to do so' said William Hill spokesman Graham Sharpe.

WILLIAM HILL OFFER 6/5 THAT JEREMY CORBYN WILL CEASE TO BE LABOUR LEADER DURING 2016. They also make him 3/1 to go in 2020; 4/1 in 2017; 7/1 2021 or later; 10/1 2018; 12/1 2019.

Next permanent Labour leader: 7/2 Benn; 4/1 Jarvis; 5/1 Nandy; 9/1 Watson; 10/1 Dugher; 12/1 McDonnell; 12/1 Starmer; 16/1 Umunna. Others on request.

Next General Election: Evens Tory overall majority; 11/8 Hung Parliament; 9/2 Labour overall majority.
