Brownlee Is New Favourite For SPOTY After Week Long Gamble

It is all change in the BBC Sports Personality of the Year betting as Alistair Brownlee became favourite on Friday morning. William Hill have cut his odds from 100/1 last Sunday to 2/1 under the weight of this significant gamble. Andy Murray is the athlete who has been usurped at the head of the market and he is now 5/2 second favourite with Mo Farah rounding off the top three at 10/3.

“Alistair Brownlee has come from nowhere to head the betting for Sports Personality thanks to, not only his success in the Olympics but his altruism in helping his brother across the line at the Triathlon World Series and we can only see his price getting shorter,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.

BBC Sports Personality of the Year: 2/1 Alistair Brownlee; 5/2 Andy Murray; 10/3 Mo Farah; 7/1 Laura Trott; 14/1 Nick Skelton; 16/1 Gareth Bale; 25/1 Anthony Joshua; 25/1 Max Whitlock; 33/1 Jason Kenny; 40/1 Jamie Vardy; 66/1 BAR
