Britain’s Biggest Bookmaker Pays Out Biggest Ever Premier League Sum As Leicester Win The Title
William Hill were counting the cost of Spurs’ failure to beat Chelsea on Monday night and have tallied up that Leicester City’s incredible 5000/1 Premier League win has cost them £2.2m (total loss) and had them paying out over £3.3m to punters up and down the country that had backed them – the largest payout EVER on a Premier League winner.
At the start of the season, just 25 people backed Leicester at 5000/1 staking just £58 and the payout from those bets alone came to over £360,000. As the season progressed, Leicester’s odds tumbled yet that did not stop people backing them and in total just over 30% of the £1.1m wagered on the Premier League winners market was for the Foxes.
“There will have been wild celebrations up and down the country from Foxes fans and punters alike and despite losing a fair wedge of cash on Leicester their story this season has been fantastic and we can’t begrudge them this win,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly. “It will also serve to galvanise interest next season as we expect fans of some of the Premier League’s ‘less fashionable’ sides will think 16/17 will be their year.”
