Bookies Slash Southgate For England Job

Gareth Southgate is the strong favourite with bookmakers William Hill after a wave of bets for the former England international. Initially, Southgate was 6-1, but is now 6-4 favourite with William Hill.

“There have been more bets on Gareth Southgate than anyone else and he’s the hot favourite to be next England manager,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.

Glenn Hoddle is also strong in the market and having been 20-1 immediately after England’s loss to Iceland, the former Three Lions gaffer is now 4-1 second-favourite.

The other notable man to shorten is Alan Shearer, who has halved in price (now 8-1 from 16-1).

The big drifter is Gary Neville, who was just 5-1 to be appointed successor to Roy Hodgson after the match, but has now been pushed out to 14-1.

“Gary Neville is incredibly weak in the market, which is pretty surprising given his popularity as a pundit. Maybe punters just feel he’s better on the box than on the sidelines.”
