Bookies Braced For Million Pound X Factor Week As Biggest Bet Of The Series Is Placed On Saara

With the X Factor final at the end of the week, William Hill are bracing themselves for a week of bumper betting. The betting industry could well see up to £1m wagered in this week alone. Over the weekend, long-time favourite, Matt Terry, was usurped at the head of the betting by Saara Aalto. She is the 4/5 favourite, slightly ahead of Matt at 6/5 with 5 After Midnight the 11/2 outsiders.

“Usually by the end of the show we have one act who is almost certain to win and is massively odds on, however, this time around it is so tight at the top that any one of the acts could realistically win the final,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly. “It could be the first time in a long time that the winner is decided on the final by how good they are on the night, rather than everything that has gone before.”

Saara has had the biggest change in fortunes since the start of the show as she opened up at 25/1 before drifting to 50/1. A number of people have since jumped on the bandwagon with one punter in London backing her last week to the tune of £7,000 at 9/4 – the biggest bet of the series so far, which would return £19,250.

“Just four weeks ago, Saara was 25/1 to win the X Factor and was heading for exit after surviving a sing off against Four of Diamonds. Now she has soared to the top of the betting and there are plenty of people who think she could win,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.
