Bookies 'Bear' Brunt Of Lockinge Uncertainty

William Hill report that the changing going descriptions at Newbury have scuppered antepost turnover on the Lockinge Stakes, but expect a lively on-the-day market.

“The Lockinge market will spring in to life when we know exactly what is running. Understandably, punters are waiting for some clarity before delving in to their pockets,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.

Kodi Bear is the most popular horse at the top of the market. He’s now 4-1 joint-favourite with William Hill from 9-2, joining last year’s runner-up, Toormore, at the head of the betting.

In the Poulains (French 2000 Guineas), Aidan O’Brien has supplemented The Gurkha, with William Hill taking his chance seriously (9-2), with only the unbeaten Zarak ahead of him in the betting (4-1). Dicton has also been supplemented for the race, but is an outsider at 16-1.

In the Pouliches (French 1000 Guineas), English 1000 Guineas third Alice Springs heads the market at 5-2 for O’Brien and team. Jean-Claude Rouget’s Qemah, who won the Prix de la Grotte at Chantilly last time, is next in at 7-2.
