71% Of EU Referendum Bets Are For 'Leave'

William Hill say that 71% of the individual bets, and 61% of the actual money staked, so far with them on the outcome of the EU Referendum have been for a 'Leave' result.

'Political punters so far want to bet on the Referendum producing a vote in favour of the 'Leave' option – but we make Stay our 4/11 favourite with Leave a 2/1 chance, and we will currently win half of what we have taken should the result be 'Stay,' but lose double the amount we have taken if it does turn out to be 'Leave'' said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.

Hills say the Scottish Referendum was the biggest political betting event there has ever been. Of the £10million+ gambled Hills took £3.25m themselves, including the biggest political bet ever placed, of £900,000, and are hoping for a similar level of betting interest this time round.

'Our record breaking £900,000 punter who collected £1,093,333.33 for his successful wager, has hinted that he is considering staking another significant bet on the EU Referendum' said Sharpe.

'Obviously the level of betting will ratchet up significantly once we know the date it is going to happen – and we currently make it a 1/2 chance that the Referendum will be held before the end of June 2016' added Sharpe.
