£15m Leicester Payout For Bookies

The fairytale has almost reached its conclusion and 5000/1 no hopers Leicester could win the Premier League on Sunday with a victory over Manchester United. They are 13/5 to do so.

“Much has been made about how much of an outsider Leicester City were to win the Premier League at the start of the season,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly. “In 82 years of operating, William Hill has never paid out on a 5000/1 shot and it may be another 82 years until we see another.”

Leicester have proved so popular this season with punters that when they do lift the trophy (if they do) that William Hill will be paying out over £3m equating to a £15m payout for the betting industry as a whole.

“Usually as bookies, we like the outsiders to come in but this is one that will cost us a fortune. Leicester’s price has been artificially high all season as we, like most people I’m sure, will have been expecting them to tail off. It has been an incredible year and an incredible story.”
