Spoty: McCoy Cut To Be Homecoming King

With the announcement that this year’s BBC Sports Personality Of The Year award will be held in Belfast, Northern Irishman AP McCoy is the 2/1 favourite with William Hill to win this year’s main prize.

Britain’s biggest bookmaker cut McCoy’s odds from 7/2 to 2/1 after the venue was chosen for this year’s ceremony. Another Northern Ireland man, Rory McIlroy, has also shortened in the running for the award from 12/1 to 8/1.

“With the event being held in Northern Ireland, there could be a patriotic drive to propel McCoy to the award for the second time,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.

McCoy would become the first multiple winner of the award since Damon Hill in the 1990s and only the third man ever to receive the prize more than once (the others are Nigel Mansell and Henry Cooper).

Meanwhile both Andy Murray and Ronnie O’Sullivan are on the drift – Murray is now 14/1 from 12/1, while O’Sullivan is 14/1 from 9/1 with William Hill.
