Sam Smith Trumps Radiohead For Bond Theme
Sam Smith has been confirmed as singing the next James Bond theme, Writing’s On The Wall, yet, for a long time, the identity of who would get the gig was certainly NOT written on the wall. Sam Smith started out with William Hill as the clear 2/1 favourite to get the gig, however two subsequent gambles on Radiohead (for whom someone attempted to place a £15,000 wager) and Ellie Goulding meant that by the time the betting closed, he was the third favourite.
He now looks likely to pick up a number one hit for the song with Britain’s biggest bookie offering 2/5 that he hits top spot (in a first for a Bond theme) while he is the 6/1 to bag the Christmas number one spot.
“Sam Smith was the logical choice which is why he was installed as our initial favourite, however, the money we saw for Radiohead and Ellie Goulding seems to suggest it was anything but an easy decision for the Bond producers,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly. “He now looks absolutely certain to become the first Bond song to ever hit the top of the UK charts.”
