Rooney To Break Charlton’s Record Against San Marino?

Saturday’s football is all about one man and that man is Wayne Rooney. With just two goals required to break Sir Bobby Charlton’s England goalscoring record, William Hill are offering 7/2 that he does so in the first half against San Marino and 13/8 that he breaks the record in the second half.

“His form in the Premier League may not have been up to scratch but surely Rooney can bag a couple against San Marino to finally claim the record,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.

England are 1/100 to win the match, however there are a few people who think a San Marino upset, at 80/1, could be on the cards. One very optimistic punter from Stoke has placed £100 on the European minnows bagging a victory.

“Given that San Marino have only ever won one international match in their history a £100 wager seems incredibly optimistic,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly “Either that or he’s an incredibly pessimistic England fan…”
