Rooney For SPOTY?
Wayne Rooney broke Sir Bobby Charlton’s goalscoring record against Switzerland on Tuesday and William Hill have shortened his odds of winning this year’s BBC Sports Personality of the Year from 33/1 to 14/1.
One area where Wayne falls down when put side by side against Sir Bobby is that he has never won a major tournament with England and the Three Lions are 10/1 to win either the Euros next summer or the World Cup in 2018 with Rooney in the squad.
“If Rooney can captain an England squad to a major trophy, he would be propelled into the pantheon of greats (if he isn’t there already) and maybe even a knighthood would be on the cards,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.
How many England goals will Wayne Rooney retire with:
7/4 64 or more; 3/1 55 or less; 5/1 60-61; 5/1 62-63; 6/1 58-59; 8/1 56-57
Total Euros 2016 finals goals:
6/4 one; 7/4 two; 11/4 none; 9/2 three; 10/1 four or more
Will England win either Euro 2016 or World Cup 2018 with Wayne Rooney in the squad:
10/1 yes; 1/33 no
BBC Sports Personality:
5/4 Jessica Ennis Hill; 7/1 Chris Froome; 7/1 Lewis Hamilton; 10/1 Mo Farah; 14/1 Wayne Rooney; 16/1 Andy Murray; 20/1 Joe Root; 20/1 Tony McCoy; 40/1 BAR
