Queen's Hat: Hats Off To Those Who Backed Pink!

Bookmakers William Hill were hit with the traditional opening betting market of Royal Ascot – the Queen’s Hat colour – after the favourite, Pink, won.

The bookies took their first sting of the Royal meeting as Her Majesty selected the favourite, which had been backed from 3-1 to 11-8 favourite. Officially the colour was described as ‘fuchsia and cerise’ – with William Hill paying out on the nearest description of pink.

“Bookies can be very superstitious but after getting the Queen’s Hat colour wrong, the omens aren’t looking good for Royal Ascot,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.

William Hill took a £200 bet at odds of 3/1 from a mystery punter in a William Hill shop in Kent – and now Britain’s biggest bookmaker will be keeping a close eye on the shrewd customer’s next choice.

“We’ll be watching very carefully to see if this stranger places any more bets on the Queen’s hat colour for the rest of Royal Ascot,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.

Queen’s Hat Betting – Day Two (Wednesday): 7-2 White, 4-1 Blue, 5-1 Pink, 6-1 Green, 7-1 Yellow, 9-1 Cream, 10-1 Brown, 10-1 Grey/Silver, 16-1 Peach, 16-1 Purple, 16-1 Turquoise, 20-1 Orange, 25-1 Red, 50-1 Black
