Overexcited Gamble On Van Gaal To Go

After a mad gamble on the evening of the 22nd, which turned out to be slightly overexcited, William Hill have eased Louis van Gaal’s odds of being the next Premier League manager to leave his job from 1/10 although he remains very much the clear favourite in the market at 1/5. After seven points from three games, long-time favourite, Steve McClaren, is the 9/1 second favourite ahead of Remi Garde at 12/1.

“Twitter was ablaze with rumours that van Gaal had gone and while Tuesday’s gamble was pre-emptive he clings on by his fingernails with Giggs and Mourinho waiting in the wings,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.

Should van Gaal leave, it looks like it is a straight two horse race to replace him with Jose Mourinho and Ryan Giggs the 1/2 and 13/8 market leaders.

Next Premier League manager to leave: 1/5 Louis van Gaal; 9/1 Steve McClaren; 12/1 Remi Garde; 14/1 Alex Neil; 14/1 Ronald Koeman; 16/1 Manuel Pellegrini; 16/1 no manager to leave; 20/1 BAR

Next permanent Manchester United manager: 1/2 Jose Mourinho; 13/8 Ryan Giggs; 10/1 Pep Guardiola; 33/1 Diego Simeone; 33/1 Gary Neville; 40/1 BAR
