Oak's Winner Saves William Hill over £2 million

The winner of today’s Investec Oaks at Epsom saved William Hill in excess of £2million.

Britain’s biggest bookmaker cheered on the result as 5-2 favourite Legatissimo was nailed on the line by 50-1 outsider Qualify. Legatissimo was the biggest liability and Qualify was the most profitable result and the swing between the two was more than £2million.

“This result has saved the bookies millions of pounds – it’s not often that we say that about an Aidan O’Brien winner,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.

However, bookmakers will need to dodge another bullet on Saturday when Golden Horn, who will be ridden by the ever-popular Frankie Dettori, bids to land the Derby. William Hill estimate Dettori could cost the industry tens of millions of pounds if his horse wins.
