NSW election: $100k punters unload on Baird

The odds of a Coalition victory at next week’s NSW state election have firmed into the shortest they have been since betting commenced last April.

The Mike Baird-led Coalition is now at the skinny odds of $1.03 at Australia’s champion racehorse Black Caviar only started at odds that short once in her unbeaten 25-start career.

“They are backing Baird as though he’s Black Caviar,” said William Hill’s Andrew Brown.

“One punter has placed $100,000 on a Coalition victory, while another punter has had 12 separate bets totalling $170,500 on theparty to win next week.”

“More than 96% of the money we are holding in this market is for the Coalition.”

Labor has now ballooned to the outside odds of $12 with William Hill. The party was considered a $4 chance eleven months ago.

Itis a $2.20 favouriteoption that the Coalition will win between 50-54 seats, or $3.30 for 55-59 seats.
