McCoy To Receive A Knighthood?

AP McCoy will receive the Lifetime Achievement award at the BBC Sports Personality Of The Year on Sunday night and William Hill are betting on whether the former jockey receives a knighthood in 2016.

William Hill offer short odds of Even-Money that McCoy becomes ‘Sir AP’ by the end of next year.

“AP McCoy is one of the most decorated and celebrated sporting icons of all time and we believe it is a matter of ‘when’ and not ‘if’ he receives a knighthood,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.

The big race over the Festive season is the William Hill King George VI Chase, which AP McCoy won in 2002 on board popular chaser Best Mate.

This year’s betting is dominated by the Irish. Don Cossack is the 5-2 favourite and is trained by Gordon Elliott in Ireland, while the second-favourite at 3-1 is Vautour who hails from the County Carlow yard of Willie Mullins. Vautour will be ridden by the most successful jockey in King George history, Ruby Walsh.

“The King George was one of many races won by AP McCoy and this year every jockey who rides in the race will be looking to add their name to the roll of honour,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.
