Literary Punters Believe Hanya Booked For Glory

Hanya Yanagihara has been the best backed contender for the Man Booker Prize with bookmakers William Hill, attracting two thirds of the money so far gambled on the outcome.2/1 favourite when the longlist was announced, Hills have now cut her odds from 2/1 to 6/4 shortlist favourite, to claim the prize with A Little Life.


The biggest selling bookso far, Anne Tyler’s A Spool of Blue Thread is 4/1 joint second favourite, together with Sunjeev Sahota’s The Year of the Runaways.


Tom McCarthy’s Satin Island is 6/1 fourth favourite while Marlon James’ A Brief History of Seven Killings at 8/1 and ChigozieObioma’sThe Fisherman at 10/1 are the outsiders.


“Literary punters seem convinced HanyaYanagihara will win, but as we’ve seen so often in the past judging panels can be difficult to second-guess”, said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe.
