Lido Punches Out Don

Valseur Lido was given a canny ride by Ruby Walsh to land the Growise Champion Novice Chase at Punchestown and has been trimmed to 16/1 from 25/1 for next year’s Cheltenham Gold Cup by William Hill.

The biggest shock was that Don Poli finished last. The odds-on 4/9 favourite was well-fancied to follow up his RSA Chase win with victory at Punchestown but was drifting in the market beforehand.

Don Poli emptied up the home stretch and has been pushed out from being 5/1 joint-favourite with William Hill for next year’s Gold Cup, to 8/1.

“Don Poli has really disappointed and connections will hope they can put a line through that run,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.

As a result of Don Poli’s loss, William Hill have trimmed Vautour to 4/1 favourite, from 5/1 joint-favourite.
