Is New Labour MP Leader-In-Waiting?

NEWLY ELECTED OLDHAM West/Royton MP, Jim McMahon, is already being tipped to be a future leader of the Labour Party, and William Hill are quoting him at 20/1 ever to occupy that position – and 66/1 to succeed Jeremy Corbyn as the next leader of the Party.

'Mr McMahon appears to be a potential rising star in the Party and seems to be set to become an influential Labour figure in the coming years' said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.

Labour were always odds-on to hold on to the Oldham seat, opening at odds of 1/14 (stake £14 for profit of £1); lenthening out to 4/11 (stake £11 for profit of £4) before shortening rapidly in the final 48 hours and going off as 1/7 favourites (stake £7 to win £1). Hills had also offered 3/1 tha Labour would take 50% or more of the votes cast, which they did comfortably.

'It was noticeable that whereas by far the greatest number of individual bets we took was for an upset Ukip win, the total amount of money gambled on Labour was far more than on the other Parties' said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.

The pressure on Jeremy Corbyn as leader was eased by the by-election win, but Labour remain outsiders to win the next General Election with Hills who make them 9/2 to secure an overall majority.
