Irish Riches Guineas and Gold Cup
Aidan O’Brien’s English Classic winner Gleneagles is aiming for a second Guineas, this time on his home turf in Ireland. Gleneagles is the 4-9 favourite* with William Hill for the Irish 2,000 Guineas and the bookmakers are still laying plenty of bets at odds-on.
“It’s all about the favourite Gleneagles and he’s attracting some very chunky bets, with punters believing he is a banker,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke
It’s a similar case in the 1,000 Guineas, with Found a well-supported favourite at 9-4 with William Hill. At longer odds, Mick Channon’s Malabar was trimmed earlier in the week to 9-1 from 10-1 and has attracted each-way money.
“There has been a spread of money across the market, but Found is very popular and easily the best-backed horse. Punters are clearly willing to forgive her disappointing reappearance and are supporting her to get her career back on track,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.
In the Tattersalls Gold Cup market, The Grey Gatsby heads the betting with William Hill as the 11-8 favourite, while Al Kazeem is a 5-2 chance and Postponed is 11-4.
