In a Flutter over Briatin's National Bird
Forget the General Election, Britain’s Got Talent and Eurovision, the most eagerly anticipated voting result is in - Britain’s National Bird!
BBC Springwatch will make the result announcement on tonight’s programme and the odds-on favourite to be crowned champion is the Robin.
Bookmakers William Hill have been betting on the result and Robin is clearly the one to beat.
“It is clear who is the most popular with those having a flutter with more than half of all bets on the Robin,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.
More than 213,000 people voted across the country and the Robin was subject to a bit of a gamble.
The Robin was 3/1 when betting first opened at William Hill, only for the red-breasted bird to be slashed in to odds-on favourite at 2/5.
